Atmospheric transmittance diagram.

Atmospheric windows Types of electromagnetic waves that pass through gases that have the composition of the Earth's atmosphere. Also known as atmospehric electromagnetic transmittance or opacity. Note that the atmosphere is "transparent" to (let's through) visible light, but "opaque" to (absorbs and stops) infrared radiation. This property plays an important role in the greenhouse effect.
