Photosynthesis -
The process by which plants and other organisms convert the energy in sunlight (a form of electromagnetic radiation) into the chemical energy stored in organic matter (the material bodies of living things).
Beyond that, the cumulative process that contributes to key Earth processes that regulate the composition of the atmosphere (carbon dioxide and oxygen concentration) and thus the Earth's climate by regulating greenhouse gases.
Process that endows food (plants and animals) with the energy it contains, and endows fossil fuels, that are the chemical remains of living things, with energy.
An informal presentation of the "photosynthesis" equation for Earth science purposes. Please refer to biology texts for more detailed presentations.
