Dear Ms. Cerelli,

The first day at the Howard Hughes Summer Camp we were at the Birch Aquarium first we played three games so we could get to know each other then we went into the classroom or the "lad" and we learned a lot of new marine vocabulary like what physical property means, chemical property, marine, plankton, salinity, ph, fodd web, photosynthesis, ect. that day we also made a picture in our journals shoein were phytoplankton lives and were the zooplankton lives (microscopic animals living in the ocean) it also showed that the in the photic zone there is 100% light there and in the end of the photic zone there 1% light. The last thing we did that day was that we learned the procedure of photosenthesis and we learned about food webs. Then the teacher gave us some time to write a reflection of the day in our journals and along with the reflection we also had to answer some questions in our reflection part in full sentences.

The second ay at the Howard Hughes Science Camp, we learned about Invertebrates (animals withought bone or skeleton) including Cnidarians, the Madusas, the Echinoderm, the Mollusc, the Arthopods, and the Annelids. so we did an activity about all those types of animals and each table got there own little animal to touch and study for a while then we got a "muscle plump"(I think I dont know if thats what its called)and we had to seperate different parts of it and put it into colums like which one is a Cnidarian, ect. and we found a lot ofhermite crab, and they were so cute and small we found like 10 or 11 of them and our group (Charlecia, Yvette, and me won fist prize in our work so the teacher gave me a whale (Orka), she gave Yvette a dolphin and Charlecia a pingwiun (little beanis animals). Then we made up some questions for the scientists that were coming to talk to us. In the afternoon we went down to the beach and swam some people stayed out of the water and biuld sand castles , then we walked along the beach looking for some animals just to sea them and study them but there were a lot of rockes there and Yvette Bandin sliped and fell we went around 12:30 p.m. to the beach and left around 3:30 p.m. when we walked back a lot of people walked barefoot , including me because we had sand on our feet and there was a grassy area were we had to walk and the sand would fall off. When we got back we went in to the bathrooms to change into some not wet and full of sand clothes then we went outside near the statues (the whales) and we had a snack while we wrote in our journals(our reflections). So I would say that so far I have had a lot fun I have met new people and made new friends.

These are the questions I made for the scientists:

1)What is it about your job that is so interesting?

2)Have any of you ever found out something new that no scientist had ever discovered before?

3)What or who inspired you to make this your career?

In my opinion I would say that being at the Howard Hughes Science Camp is a lot better that being at home watchin TV, eating a lot, and playing video games.

Your Student.
