What Does An Octopus Look Like?

Octopuses are molluscs and are related to squid and chambered nautilus. Octopuses have eight legs, and a large head. They are different kinds of shapes and sizes. It all depends on the species. They move very slowly, trying not to be spotted using their eight legs. They have suction cups and tentacles which help them protect themselves from other animals.

What Do Octopus Eat And How Do They Eat?

Octopuses eat shrimp, lobsters, crabs, and snails. They eat by grabbing prey into their eight arms. Using their parrot-like mouth, they shred prey into small pieces that will fit into their mouths.

Where Can They Be Found?

Octopuses can be found near shallow parts of the ocean reaching 100-200 feet in depth. They spend their mornings in caves or on the ground. During the afternoons and nights they go hunting for their food. They have to be careful not to get eaten by other animals. When they get cornered they turn their bodies around so their tentacles can wrap around their prey. They throw ink at any animal that tries to eat them. They camouflage themselves so they can't be seen by their prey and by predators.
