Chitons are mollusks. They are related to sea snails, limpets and clams.

Chitons are commonly found under rocks in the bay. There are more than 600

species of chitons. One of the two kinds of chitons are the stenoplanx conspicua and the cryptochiton stelleri.

The stenoplax conspicua are 10.16 cm (4 inches) long. The cryptochiton stelleri are 38.1 cm (15 inches) long.

They are pray to pisaster ochraceous and octopuses. The chitons are herbivores. Most chitons can live up to 20 years.

They reproduce in the water. The teeth of the chiton are in there radula.


There are 6 main parts to the inside of the chiton. The parts are the mouth, gridle, gills, foot, anus and plates. Chritons use their

mouths to eat. The gridle is used to stick on to the rock with. They use their foot to move and they use their anus to give away

waste. Chitons use their gills to breath.
