Dear: Ms. Ryder,

August 8&9 2001

Hello. I've learned so much in the past 3 days. On the second day I was not here. But only one the first day I learned a lot. We all met each other and learned each other's name. I think the food here is really good. It was catered by UCSD's catering service. The teachers here are really nice and explain things really well.

On Monday we went to the birch Aquarium and looked at A LOT of sea creatures. But before we looked at the creatures we went into this class room and learned a lot of scientific words. Like salinity which is the measure of salt in the water. And knot which is the measure of wind speed or boat speed. We also watched this movie about earth, or as they called it "the water planet". Then we went to this pier and were supposed to do some scientific stuff but we could not go in the room because they did not give us the key. But I had never been one the pier before so that was cool just getting to go on there. When we went to the Aquarium I really liked the star fish and the sea horses. They had this part in the Aquarium where it had some hands on stuff. The coolest thing there was this stuffed penguin. It had died from natural causes. The teachers handed out some digital cameras so we can put pictures on our site. Every day we have a reflection question. They are just questions of what we did that day. But I really like that part because it is kind of a quiet time. At the Aquarium it was really crowded! The weather was perfect. It was foggy but a bit warm.

Today we're working in the computer lab. It is cool because we started our websites. I have made one before but it wasn't that good so this one will be really cool. I learned some short cuts and how to use different programs. Thats about all we have really done so far. But the teachers say it will get a lot more exciting! I really hope so. Then at lunch some people played soccer, but I just read. Then we came back to the computer lab. I now learned how much work goes into a website!After this the bus will take us back to Mann.

It is a shame Najla is not here because right now I only know one person. She would have really made this camp a lot more fun. She would have really liked some of the activates we have been doing. But I think I will start making friends soon. I really hope that next year you will be my science teacher! And I hope that last year's class is there too.

P.S. During the camp I have not to much to do so I read. Next year I will be ready for any book report! ;-p
