For someone who is new to the subject, the semantics of what constitutes a theory or a hypothesis can both be too much detail and ... For those with a litigator's sense of detail though, it may be interesting to debate whether "continental drift" constitutes a theory? If so, that implies that ideas can be theories even when they have been disproven or more conjecture than we give to plate tectonics.
