Working with scientists from Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, he has applied Milankovitch theory to the reconstruction of ice age cycles from deep-sea sediments with emphasis on chronology. He has also contributed to our understanding of the marine carbon cycle by applying the carbon isotope record and extended high-resolution climate stratigraphy into pre-Quaternary time by applying Ocean Drilling Program materials.
